Remote Director of Technology

Position Summary:

Responsible for developing and maintaining all technology related matters with Joshua Project, including IT strategies, policies, systems, security, infrastructure, website/app development and maintenance.


Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement IT and data strategies that drive innovation, scalability, and efficiency across Joshua Project systems and platforms.
  • Oversee all aspects of technology infrastructure, software development, and digital security in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop IT team (staff, contractors, and volunteers); including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and goal setting.
  • Establish and maintain IT policies, procedures, and standards that promote reliability, resilience, and data integrity.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (including AI) for ethical and effective adoption within ministry operations.
  • Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of servers, networks, and backup systems, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Manage the organization’s Microsoft 365 tenancy (e-mail, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.) and related integrations.
  • Identify, mitigate, and monitor security risks; coordinate IT security audits, compliance checks, and incident response plans.
  • Lead migration and management of cloud infrastructure (Azure), ensuring a sustainable and cost-effective environment.
  • Direct vendor relationships for IT services, software licensing, and cloud hosting.
  • Supervise the maintenance and ongoing enhancement of websites, APIs, and databases.
  • Oversee data workflows between the internal master database and the public website, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborate with communications and design teams to deliver high-quality maps, data visualizations, and user interfaces.
  • Evaluate and manage external consultants or development partners for web and mobile initiatives.
  • Lead planning and execution of major digital initiatives, such as website redesigns or app launches.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with other ministries and IT professionals for shared learning and resource optimization.

  • You are familiar with Joshua Project and the specialized focus on people group data, especially Unreached People Groups and Frontier People Groups.
  • You have some missions experience or exposure that informs your understanding of the world and God's passion to be known, followed, and worshiped by individuals from every people group.
  • You understand that, while pay may be negotiable, JP staff serves with a distinct commitment to Christ's commission to make disciples from every people group. To that end, you are open to the possibility of raising personal financial support, just like almost every current staff member does.
  • Your tech skills are not overly specialized. You are able to work comfortably with front-end and back-end elements of a project.
  • You have experience leading a team. You have skill in managing and communicating with team members and foster unity among those you work with.
