FaithOnline is hiring a
Remote UI/UX Product Designer
📍 Remote
We're looking for a talented, mission-aligned UI/UX Product Designer to help shape the look, feel, and experience of FaithOnline. You'll own design across our iOS and Android mobile app as well as our web-based platforms, including the internal CMS and admin tools our team uses to run FaithOnline day to day. You'll work closely with engineering to bring screens to life with pixel precision, and with product and leadership to make sure every flow serves formation, connection, and growth rather than distraction.
We move fast, learn fast, and adjust fast. The right person thrives in that environment and genuinely cares about what they're building.
This role starts as a contractor position at 10 hours. Hours and scope could grow with the platform.
What You'll Do
- Own product design across the core FaithOnline experience: exploration, interaction design, visual execution, prototyping, and implementation.
- Design across both our consumer-facing mobile app and our web-based platforms, including the CMS and admin tools our internal team uses to manage content and run the platform.
- Turn product objectives into real solutions. Dig into the problem with Product, try several approaches, weigh the tradeoffs, and land on a direction.
- Design 0-to-1 features and workflows as we build the platform out past our beta.
- Design past the happy path: states, transitions, errors, edge cases, and system feedback. A feature isn't done until it works as a whole.
- Hold a high bar on interaction and visual craft, and help FaithOnline's aesthetic (warm, grounded, premium, human, hopeful) evolve as you go.
- Prototype fast with whatever fits: Figma, AI-assisted prototyping, functional prototypes. The point is to make ideas tangible and decisions faster.
- Grow our design system as the product grows. Build on our Material Design foundation and add patterns that let us move quickly without dropping quality.
- Work closely with engineering through implementation. Give them the interaction detail, logic, and context for a clean handoff.
- Pitch in on FaithOnline's broader visual direction when it makes sense, including product-adjacent surfaces like the website and app store presence.
- Communicate early. Raise questions, risks, and ideas before they turn into problems, and keep Product and Engineering in sync via Slack and Jira.
Our Tech Stack
You should be comfortable, or quickly get comfortable, working across all of these:
- Design: Figma, Material Design components
- Mobile: Designing for cross-platform (iOS + Android)
- Web: Our in-house, web-based CMS and admin platforms
- Analytics: Mixpanel
- Project Management: Jira, Slack, Confluence/Notion
What We're Looking For
We care more about what you can do than how many years you've done it. You'll probably do well here if you:
- Have serious visual and UI craft, with a portfolio that shows it, ideally including both consumer mobile apps and web-based platforms.
- Have a track record of building experiences that drive real retention and app growth, not just experiences that look good in a portfolio.
- Know your UX and interaction fundamentals: hierarchy, flows, states, feedback, and messy product behavior.
- Think in systems, not screens, and track how one decision ripples through the product.
- Have taken vague, early-stage problems and made them coherent.
- Explore before you converge. You can build out real alternatives, name the tradeoffs, and say why you'd pick one.
- Move fast without going shallow. You know when to explore, when to raise fidelity, and when a decision is ready to ship.
- Own past the initial ask. You design the whole experience, not just the first screen.
- Can explain your calls, grounded in user needs, product logic, UX principles, and real constraints.
- Work well alongside product and engineering while running your own work independently.
- Have built and maintained design systems and reusable component libraries; experience with Material Design specifically is a strong plus, since that's our foundation.
- Use AI in your process (exploration, prototyping, iteration, production) and can tell what it can speed up from what needs your own judgment and craft.
- Are genuinely aligned with FaithOnline's mission and the call of the Great Commission. This isn't a box to check; it shapes the decisions you'll be trusted to make.
Helpful, Not Required
- Big bonus: you've built content, community, engagement, or social platforms, and know what actually keeps people coming back.
- Big bonus: you've designed for faith-based platforms in a way that speaks to the heart of Scripture and real spiritual formation, not just growth metrics.
- Experience designing B2B, internal tools, or CMS/admin platforms, not just consumer-facing surfaces
- Early- or growth-stage startup experience
- 0-to-1 products or major features
- AI-powered products or workflows
